Finding Michi

This game was developped with a group of friends for the global game jam 2024. Even though it isn’t finished, there are plans to finish it in the near future. The group was formed by tree artists, five programmers and me as the designer, and we had two days to finish the game.

The theme of the jam was «Bubbles», so as a group, we decided on developping a small pixel art metroidvania like game. The theme «Bubbles» represented the oxigen the main character had in his oxigen tanks, having to refill them with some anemonae. As a metroidvania, the game has a laberintical level design that also forces the player to explore the map to discover new mechanics and help him face the enemies.

My role as the game designer was to come up with the mechanics and level we would be developing, taking into account the little ammount of time we had to do so. I also did al the level building with the tileset developed by the artists and acted as a tester of the mechanics and enemies, giving feedback when necessary.

The experience of being the one in charge of leading and organizing the team was very rewarding, as everyone started working very effectivelly. I also made shure we took note on the state of every feature, asset or mechanic. In the end, we couldn’t finish the game due to it being our first jam and some unpredicted aspects consequence of our inexperience.
